Neil Young - the needle and the damage done, 1972

"Ever since I left Canada about five years ago or so and moved down south, I found out a lot of things that I didn't know when I left. Some of 'em are good, and some of 'em are bad. Got to see a lot of great musicians before they happened, before they became famous, y'know, when they were just gigging, five and six sets a night... things like that. And I got to see a lot of great musicians who nobody ever got to see for one reason or another. But, strangely enough, the real good ones that you never got to see was... 'cause of heroin. And that started happening over and over. Then it happened to someone that everyone knew about. So I just wrote a little song."

The Waterboys - rags, 1984

"one of those records where I loved a few of the with the the brilliance of a thousand white-hot suns (big music needs big metaphors) (if not necessarily good metaphors) and was kinda “meh” on the others. One of those white hot sun tracks was “Rags,” which came skyrocketing from the cosmos on a massive Scott guitar line — multiple overdubs on his beloved 12-string Danoelectro Bellzouki guitar — echoed by Lorimer’s trumpet, and took its sweet time getting to the lyrics because why not."

The Beatles - doctor robert, 1966

"There's some fellow in New York, and in the States we'd hear people say: "You can get everything off him; any pills you want." It was a big racket, but a joke too about this fellow who cured everyone of everything with all these pills and tranquilizers, injections for this and that; he just kept New York high. That's what Doctor Robert is all about, just a pill doctor who sees you all right."
