Renaissance - love goes on, 1971

"The band recorded "Love Goes On", "Golden Thread", "Love Is All", and "Face of Yesterday" in between continued extensive touring in both the UK and mainland Europe, a schedule that was so physically taxing that McCarty became ill while on the road, leading him to announce in July 1970 that he was leaving Renaissance in order to focus exclusively on songwriting. Keith Relf was not immune to the stresses and personal conflicts of the band's nonstop schedule, and with McCarty gone, he shortly after announced that he was quitting Renaissance as well, though he continued to be present for the recording sessions in his capacity as producer. John Hawken recruited singer Terry Crowe and guitarist Michael Dunford (both from Hawken's previous band The Nashville Teens), as well as session drummer Terry Slade to replace Relf and McCarty. Louis Cennamo nonetheless was skeptical of the band's future in the light of the departure of both their primary songwriters, so when the band Colosseum contacted him with an invitation to become their new bassist, he accepted. Bassist Neil Korner, another former member of The Nashville Teens, replaced him."

Rilo Kiley - go ahead, 2001

"This song is ultimately kinder than I was 20ish years ago, and because we see things not for what they are but as we are, my 18-year-old self heard a much more sarcastic, sardonic intent underneath this track that pairs a breezy permissiveness with an absolutely astonishing willingness to accept whatever is best for the object of this song, even if that means losing them to distance, separate paths or the freedom to find somebody else that’s better."

Kitchens Of Distinction - oak tree, 2013

"Fitzgerald's impassioned, wordy, often bluntly personal vocals careened over what sounded like a mass of swirling guitars, though the band only had one guitarist."

Neil Young - birds, 1970

"You know, I don't edit my songs. I knew something was happening at the time that I wrote it to make that right, but I can't remember what it is and it doesn't apply to what I'm doing now."

The Go-Betweens - a bad debt follows you, 1983

"The Go-Betweens were already a good band well before they made Before Hollywood, but this second album is what proved for many listeners that they were great."

The Beatles - boys cover, 1963

"Ringo always used to do a song in the show. Back then he had 'Boys'. It was a little embarrassing because it went, 'I'm talking about boys - yeah, yeah - boys'. It was a Shirelles hit and they were girls singing it, but we never thought we should call it Girls, just because Ringo was a boy. We just sang it the way they'd sung it and never considered any implications."

The The - perfect, 1983

"Youthful angst and anomie are fine in their place, but not all over the place."

Pink Floyd - cirrus minor, 1969

"It was written by Roger Waters and performed by David Gilmour on vocals and guitar and Rick Wright on organ. The song has a hallucinogenic, pastoral quality, with prominent organ and bird sound effects, like those later that year featured on the Ummagumma track "Grantchester Meadows". It was also included on Pink Floyd's compilation album Relics. The song features no drums. The Hammond and Farfisa organ coda is similar to that found on the "Celestial Voices" section of "A Saucerful of Secrets".

Genesis - in the beginning, 1969

"This debut Genesis album, which has appeared under license to various labels in addition to Decca and London in different configurations, is largely of historical interest. The group was still in its formative stages, the members barely past their 18th birthdays and still working out what they wanted to sound like."
